HVAC issues lead to safety risks and air quality concerns

I had no idea that heating and cooling systems had become so expensive until I had a problem with mine.

Living in Jacksonville, air conditioning is especially important.

The summers are brutally hot and humid. Temperatures frequently climb into the triple digits. While the winters tend to be mild, conditions can plummet into the mid thirties. Heating is necessary. When I purchased my home, I knew the system was on borrowed time. I didn’t realize that the ductwork was in such bad shape. In the month of July, I noticed the air coming from the vents smelled rather musty. There was a noticeable influx of airborne contaminants floating around. The air conditioner seemed to be running nonstop and my electric bills just about doubled. Before I had the chance to do anything about it, the system quit altogetherI called a professional HVAC contractor to take a look. He discovered that the ductwork had been designed and installed improperly. Not only that, sections had come apart and were leaking badly. There was a buildup of nasty debris inside. The ductwork caused the unit to work much harder and caused it to fail. The estimate to replace the ductwork and HVAC unit was extremely expensive. The contractor said he needed to tear down walls and ceiling. There was no way I wanted to deal with that kind of expense, disruption and mess. However, there was no way to sell the house through a conventional real estate listing without fixing the problem. The air quality hazards, safety risks and lack of energy efficiency were enough to fail a home inspection. The only avenue that made sense was to sell to a cash home buyer. I submitted a contact form online and got back a reasonable offer very quickly.
